The Team

Project Leader Chris Robinson is an experienced Marine Engineer and diver who currently runs his own business in Filey. Chris is currently the Vice Chairman of the Cleveland and North Yorkshire Coastal Forum and has a degree in Environmental Science and Conservation.  Since Childhood he has been fascinated with the ancient breakwater of Filey Brigg. Chris has been responsible for the overall strategy of the Archaeological work.

 Chris Clark is an experienced diver and underwater photographer. She has a degree in Computing and Statistics and training in  Countryside Management .  Chris is  the Group Treasurer and has consistently obtained funding for us over the years. Chris is the joint Author of the report on the Spittals breakwater with Chris Robinson.

Val Flanagan is one of the Founder members of the Filey Sub-Aqua Club and is an experienced diver and underwater photographer. Val has been closely involved with Filey regeneration projects over the years and along with Chris Clark has given regular talks to adult and School groups about the Underwater World of Filey Brigg. 

Project Co-ordinator and Secretary Bob Briggs is an experienced diver and has a degree in Marine Zoology with postgraduate experience in underwater physiology. He  has organised a number of Marine Life identification courses and Seashore Walks with the Flamborough Head Heritage Coast and North Yorkshire Moors National Park. He currently assists with seashore walks for the Filey Rocks and Fossils project.

Thanks goes to Dr Sue Hull , who provided the majority of marine life identifications and the descriptions of the above tidal Filey Brigg zones. 

We are indebted to our underwater archaeology experts, John Buglass and Peter Pritchard for their invaluable training and advice throughout this project. We are also indebted to geologist Alan Staniforth for examining and classifying the rock samples, we benefited from useful discussions with him on rock formations of the area. Sincere thanks also to Nick and Dave Johnston, proprietors of British Skysports Parachute Centre, Grindale, who flew over Filey Brigg at low altitude and took some excellent aerial photographs for us. Thanks also to Pip Farline who used his coble Eglantine to deploy the baseline along the edge of the Spittals structure; and Bob Missen from Scarborough Borough Council, who smoothed the way for us with the harbour authority and provided some parking passes. Thanks goes to Michael Fearon who provided invaluable encouragement, historical information and assistance with a video of the project.
